Our journey began with a powerful mission, driven by the simple yet profound belief that these gentle giants deserve lives free from pain, exploitation, and fear.

 The story of Maerim Elephant Sanctuary centers around our founder, Busabong “Pui” Kuetkong. Having witnessed firsthand the heartbreaking realities faced by elephants in captivity where they were forced into harsh labor, subjected to inhumane treatment, and stripped of their natural behaviors Pui was moved to take action. With her boundless passion and determination, she envisioned a safe haven where elephants could thrive, heal, and receive the love they so richly deserve.

 Launched with humble beginnings, the sanctuary quickly became a refuge for elephants rescued from the oppressive conditions found in logging farms and those who had been captured from the wild. Pui’s unwavering commitment to rehabilitation and education transformed the sanctuary into a beacon of hope, not just for the elephants, but for the countless visitors who would come to learn about their plight.
