Waterfalls are ones of the popular tourist attractions in Chiang Mai. Theyre perfect places to go and spend some nice time with friends and family, as they consist of beautiful natural surroundings.

 And Mae Ya Waterfall is one of these. In fact, it is one of the most beautiful waterfalls. You should visit it at least once in lifetime.

Mae Ya Waterfall is located in Doi Inthanon National Park. Now, you may be able to imagine how gorgeous the waterfall is, as Doi Inthanon National Park itself is already stunning and full of greenery. Therefore Mae Ya Waterfall must show no difference.

There are many waterfalls in Doi Inthanon, but Mae Ya is known to be the biggest one. And not only the biggest waterfall of the national park, in fact, but it is also one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Thailand.

Mae Ya Waterfall is a 30-storied cliff, which makes it so stunning! The water flows from over-200-metred height all the time. There are some spots of the cliff that tourists can walk into, in case they want to get close to the water sprinkle, which looks like a light and white curtain.

Mae Ya Waterfall may be a little bit difficult to get to, as it is located in a quiet spot. Therefore public vehicles can’t access. Driving a personal car is the best way to go. Just drive your car to Doi Inthanon National Park first. Then you get off and start walking on your feet. To reach Mae Ya Waterfall, you have to look for the sign written its name, After you find the sign, you need to walk fro about 14 kilometres. On your way, you should be able to see lots of local villages, which calls for nice photos. Be extra careful when you walk, as the path is quite zigzag and steep. You should wear a pair of sport shoes, that will be best for your walking. You don’t want to wear a pair of slippers, lose your balance, and then trip over something.

However, just keep going until you see the waterfall from a short distance.

As soon as you arrive at the waterfall, there are many activities that you can do, for an instance, swimming. Swimming in the waterfall is good, as the water is cool and clean. Therefore your mind should feel more comfortable. However, you shouldn’t go into the water alond, but instead you should take someone with you to look after your safety. Just remember, a waterfall is a flowing water source. You may get sweeped away if you’re lack of carefulness.

The best season to go to Mae Ya Waterfall is probably not drought season, as there will not be much quantity of the water. However, the water is still clearn and clean. It’s not all gone. You can still take some nice photos, soak your feet in the water, and feel the water sprinkle.

Beside of the waterfall, you can take a look around. There is a forest nearby, which you can go in and notice some natural phenomenons. Not only that, in case you feel that one day isn’t enough for you, you can spend your nights at Mae Ya Waterfall! There are some camping spots around for tourists. But you need to speak to the rangers before you can set up a camp.

Feel free to go to this waterfall anytime. It is a convenient tourist attraction. There are most everything for you, including parking lots, restaurants, and restrooms.

Of course, there are admission fees for the place: 20 Baht for a Thai child, 50 Baht for a Thai adult, 100 Baht for a foreign child, and 200 Baht for a foreign adult.

How to get there 

The waterfall is located in Jom Thong District.

Just drive along the Highway No.108(Chiang Mai-Hod). Keep going for about 60 kilometres. Then you will see a crossroad with the same ascent to Doi Inthanon. That’s it. Turn your wheel to the right side and drive into the Highway No.1009. Keep going for 1 kilometre. Then turn left for the last time and keep driving for another 14 kilometres. From that point, you have to walk by yourself to reach the waterfall.
